SUMMARY

The Product Manager is a key position at ITW Engineered Polymers (a division of ITW) required to meet and exceed the growth and profitability goals and ensure that the business remains a market leader.  This position leverages first-hand understanding of customer needs, product and applications expertise, excellent communication skills, and leadership instincts to drive product development activities and decisions that grow our position in the market as a premium supplier of chemical solutions and the highest level of customer satisfaction.

A qualified Product Manager will have a thorough customer and application understanding through voice of the customer research. They will work closely with cross functional teams throughout the product development process to develop and implement marketing plans to meet revenue and profit targets for the product portfolio defined.  The Product Manager is also responsible for directing regular communication, support, and training to the sales and service organizations.  Additionally, the Product Manager has pricing ownership.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

· Meet regularly with customers, sales teams, technical service, channel partners, specifiers, research and development teams and others to understand customer needs and product requirements (voice of the customer/observational VOC).

· Perform market research, competitive analysis and business data (unit volumes, revenues and margin) reporting to understand market and business trends and make informed decisions for current and future product direction.

 ·Have an understanding of customer’s buying tendencies in industrial market.

· Establish product requirements that ensure a strong and clear value proposition for the product by customer segment. Act as the link between customer and ITW internal team (R&D, Operations) to translate customer needs into product specifications

· Work alongside a high-performance product development team though all product innovation stages to ensure strong competitive differentiation while also meeting time to market expectations. 

· Work with the Marketing Team to create and maintain marketing plans, advertising and sales tools including brochures, product descriptions, technical data sheets, web content, etc.

· Collaborate closely with other product managers and share data on overlapping segments

· As required, establish partnerships to compliment the range of products, services and solutions that can be offered to the customer.

· Motivate and provide continuous technical product support to internal and external customers as needed, (not limited to product training to agents, distributors, customers, etc.)

· Set pricing and general sales policy for the product line(s) to maximize profitability.

· Manage the product life cycle (including the Product Roadmaps) and assist with the communication and expectations setting with customers.

· Select and set priorities for process, price and margin improvement projects using the ITW toolbox (FTB 80/20, PLS, USa, etc.) working with the operations & supply chain teams.

· Leverage all ITW corporate business philosophies in all aspects of product management and decision making and actively participate in on-going project teams that maximize overall organizational effectiveness and efficiency.

· Participate in industry tradeshows, conferences and seminars.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

· Must have a strong understanding and appreciation for chemical products to targeted industrial manufacturers e.g. Marine, Alternative Energy, Transportation applications, usually acquired through a combination of completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, Science or Marketing as well as 3 – 5 years of Marketing experience in a manufacturing environment. 

· Must have a passion for product ownership and business development.

· Must possess and demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills and have a proven track record of thriving in a team environment.

· Ability to deliver results through exceptional project management skills and natural leadership capabilities. 

· Strong computer proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

· An advanced technical or business-related Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) from an accredited institution is desirable.

· B2B and industrial channel experience from a chemical business is preferred.

· Experience in new product development and technical program management.

· New product commercialization experience.

· Knowledge of Strategic Product Planning and Product Road mapping

· Marketing and collateral development, including specification and technical writing

WORKING CONDITIONS

· Daily interactions with the Sales Team and Technical Resource Group

· Traditional office environment with the benefit of flexible work hours. 

· Must have a desire to travel as required, occasionally on short notice.  Travel amounts will vary depending on where the product is in the life cycle, but could involve anything from day trips to 10-day international excursions.  Expect on the order of 25% travel.

MEASURES OF PERFORMANCE

· Success is measured by the execution of the strategic plan that ties to Division goals along with defined revenue growth and profitability targets.
